The 2007 Show

The bloom counts at all Federation shows were down this year, and our annual show was no different. Many people complained of late blooming gardens; the result of cooler weather than normal. However, the blooms that did arrive at show time were truly outstanding. Steve Santose flooded the head table with several magnificent large blooms. Three monster Bonaventures were dwarfed by a fourteen inch Alfred C. His spectacular basketball sized Edna C swamped the large category and a stunning nine inch Clearview Irene emerged as the best bloom from Section 59. None of these superb blooms could surpass the exquisite Trelyn Kiwi entered by Jim and Chris Stout from the Washington State Dahlia Society. In the end, it stood alone as the Best Dahlia in the Show. Paul and Cheryl Howard from Vancouver garnered the best triple of the show with perfectly matched Mary's Jomandas. Gordon Jackman from the Portland Dahlia Society snatched up yet another Best Arrangement in Show for his interpretation of "Tundra". Ted and Margaret Kennedy, also from Portland, brought a gorgeous basket of Chimacum Troys which easily won the Best Basket in Show award. It was another successful show and we are looking forward to our 100th anniversary show in 2009 when we will host the American Dahlia Society National Show!
